AP European History Extra Credit Movie List

 Directions: Watch one of the movies listed below that relates to the topics we have covered so far this year in class. After viewing the movie you will need to explain its:

·      Historical relevance or compare the movie to a historical event.

·      What affect it had on shaping history

·      You will also need to give a brief statement on its historical accuracy.

 Papers must be typed, size 12 font, double spaced and approximately 1 page in length.

You may do a report on up to 4 movies. You can earn up to .50 points for each movie for a total of 2 point that will go in the 30% quiz category.    

First Semester 

Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2007) (The story of Queen Elizabeth I of England)

To Kill a King” (2003) (The story of the English Civil War)

 Les Miserables”: Starring Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, Uma Thurman and Claire Danes (1998) or you can watch the newer one with Russell Crow. (A look at French society after the French Revolution). 

 “A Knight's Tale” (2001) (A fictional depiction of the feudal system)

 “Braveheart” (1995) (An epic tale of Scotland’s revolution against England)

 “The Messenger”: The Story of Joan of Arc (100 years war)

 “Luther” (2003) (Martin Luther leads the Reformation in Germany)

Second Semester 

·      “The Kings Speech”: Britain during WWII

·      “The Last Samurai”: Modernization of Japan

·      “The Iron Lady”: First female prime minister of Britain

·      “Good Morning Vietnam”: Vietnam war

·      “Enemy at the Gate”: WWII invasion of Russia

·      “Saving Private Ryan”: D-day Operation

·      “Pearl Harbor”: Bombing of Pearl Harbor

·      “Defiance”: WWII, Jewish Resistance  

·      “Schindlers’ List”: Holocaust (Will see this in the PAC this June at 3:00pm)

·      “Tears of the Sun” Modern day genocide

·      Avatar: Future colonization  (the blue people on Pandora)

·      Hotel Rwanda: Genocide
